Transformational Learning Cohorts

Influence the entire EFCA toward multiplication with 100 of your peers through these transformational pathways.


We want to help churches move from aspiration to implementation. Our approach to equipping transformational leaders:

    Access to the best possible resources and biblical teaching
  2. Action
    Practical learning environments focused on actionable plans, strategies and metrics
  3. Relationship
    Ongoing, low-control/high-accountability relationships between churches

2018-2019 Schedule

Each cohort will meet in person, as a group three times and participate in coaching calls between each cohort gathering. The frequency and dates of the coaching sessions will vary and be determined by the cohort leader.

  • October 15-16, 2018 at Trinity Church in Lakeville, Minn.
  • January 14-15, 2019 at Grace Bible Church in Houston, Texas
  • May 13-14, 2019 in Minneapolis (at the EFCA national office)

Cohorts will begin with lunch at noon on the first day and end at 3:00 p.m. the second day. At the end of each cohort year, we encourage churches to continue in relationship with other churches making progress toward ministry movement.


Fairshare supporting churches: $1,500 per team of up to 4 members

Non-Fairshare churches: $2,000 per team of up to 4 members

Participants need to provide their own transportation. Lunch will be provided during each cohort gathering.

The Cohorts

The cohorts focus on key elements of the EFCA's mission and vision, and the result of each cohort is a pathway that develops core ministries for movement. Space is limited.

Future Travelers – Led by Alan Hirsch and Alex Absalom

Explores the paradigm of church as apostolic movement, equipping leaders to confidently launch a movement and navigate change. In this cohort, you will:

  • Receive focused teaching on the six mDNA movement attributes.
  • Q & A sessions with Alex and Alan to help you contextualize these conversations and concepts.
  • Interactive peer-to-peer learning with fellow leaders.

The homework for this cohort involves reading and processing paradigm shifts.


Building a Disciplemaking Culture – Led by Shane Stacey, Daniel Earnest and West Brazelton

Clarify and design your church’s unique disciplemaking language, vision, practices and strategy in your local context. In this cohort, you will:

  • Assess and evaluate your current disciplemaking culture.
  • Gain access to 18 different training exercises to use with your leadership team that will move you beyond information to aligned implementation and intentional application.
  • Develop your own transferable tool kit for training others.
  • Create a 5-year disciplemaking vision and executable plan for your church.

The homework for this cohort involves leading your team through exercises to help you build out your discipline culture.


Building a Leadership Pipeline – Led by Mac Lake

Focuses on how to design, build and begin implementing a leadership pipeline. In this cohort, you will:

  • Be introduced to a four-phase development process and 20 practical leadership principles.
  • Assess your current leadership development culture.
  • Develop your own leadership development pipeline that includes: systems, content, structure and people.
  • Access resources, tools and templates.

The homework for this cohort involves leading your team through exercises to help you build out your leadership pipeline.
