At this point, you are getting a good handle on the strengths and weaknesses you are bringing to the church planting table. It is now time to begin exploring where you would best fit as a church planter. Some people have a missionary gift and can successfully plant anywhere in the United States. Most people have a cultural range. The East Coast, West Coast, Midwest, Pacific Northwest, New England and Deep South all have distinct cultures.
Some planters are wired to be pioneers. Other planters need a core group of missional families to be successful. Some planters are called to a particular people group. Some planters have a certain church planting model that they want to use.
It is often at this point that a potential planter contacts an EFCA district leader to talk about opportunities and some of these chemistry issues.
One of the services our EFCA districts provide to potential planters is to conduct an in-depth interview with the planter and his spouse to confirm his church planting call and to determine the right ministry matches for the planter to be successful. Each district has at least one team of church planting assessors that have been trained on how to conduct a behavioral interview. Like using multiple tests, the idea of a team is to have multiple expert voices speak into the assessment process so that, to the best of our human ability, we make the right choices.
Additional tests that have helped planters and district leaders figure out the chemistry question are listed below.
