The receding flood waters left large chunks of ice behind in many homes. The ice also caused damage in the Midwest where it is still relatively cold.
The devastating spring floods began the week of March 10, 2019, and continue to hit areas as the heavy snows of this winter melt. Fremont, Nebraska, just northwest of Omaha, has experienced some of the worst of the flooding.
While thousands of people in Nebraska are still evacuated and fearful of what they will come home to, the EFCA Midwest District and ReachGlobal Crisis Response are responding. The district and Crisis Response are partnering with local churches as they seek to share the love of Christ during this time of need with their neighbors.
What does response look like?
First, we mobilize prayer. Second, we reach out to the local churches and Midwest District to determine the best course of action for recovery from the floods. Third, because of our disciplemaking focus, we are also helping the district to mobilize volunteers at this time to be the hands and feet of Jesus as they help with clean-up efforts.
How can you help?
- For God to be glorified even through the floods. As people look to God for help and answers to their questions, pray what they are seeking and that the flood waters recede with no further flooding.
- For wisdom and discernment for leaders of the Midwest District and local churches, as they determine what their congregations and communities need, both short-term and long-term.
- For the ReachGlobal Crisis Response leadership team as we help churches work through the next steps for ministry as they engage with their communities in the wake of crisis.
- For gospel impact in the lives of those affected.
Floods of this size impact churches, homeowners and entire communities. For that reason, we are asking you to prayerfully consider giving as we strategically respond.
