Louisiana Flood Response

Historic flooding has hit Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and surrounding communities. ReachGlobal Crisis Response is providing help and sharing the love of Christ in a time of need.

Aug 16, 2016

"Unprecedented, unfathomable, historic and devastating."

This is how the flooding in Louisiana has been described by those in the midst of the worst flooding to hit the U.S. since Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Super Storm Sandy in 2012. In Denham Springs, located 15 minutes from Baton Rouge, an estimated 90 percent of homes are flooded and only seven businesses remain open and operational. It is estimated that only 12 percent of those affected by the floods in Louisiana had flood insurance. This is the time for the Body of Christ to come together, reach across to their neighbors and share Christ's love.

Enter the Church. As the Church, Jesus has commanded us to help those in need and now is the time to reach out our hands to those devastated by loss. “ What then shall we do?' And he answered them, 'Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise'" (Luke 3:10-11). ReachGlobal Crisis Response is poised to respond and aid both churches in the affected area and churches that want to come alongside those in need of help.

Partnership Opportunities in Louisiana

  • For the emotional and physical trauma that these floods are inflicting now and stirring up from storms in the past.
  • For the local church in the impacted area to see the mission field created in the wake of crisis.

  • For local government officials as they navigate next steps to insure safety for residents and begin to assess damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure.

  • For wisdom for the ReachGlobal Crisis Response assessment team and God’s leading and His plan for this response.

  • For long-term staff and volunteers who can commit to serving in this mission field.

If you or your church are interested in sending a volunteer team to aid in the recovery efforts, visit the volunteer page. Volunteers are needed immediately. This response is a marathon, not a sprint. Also, volunteers will be needed far into the future so begin planning now for your Fall 2016 and 2017 trips.

The mission of ReachGlobal Crisis Response:

We exist to develop, empower and release the Body of Christ to share His love in times of crisis for multiplying transformational churches among all peoples.

To advance this mission, ReachGlobal Crisis Response seeks to aid in the discipleship and transformation of:

  • The local church as they will be in the community long after the crisis is over.
  • The homeowners in the affected area that can then transform their neighborhoods.
  • The volunteers as they take what they have learned home to affect their own churches and communities with the gospel message.
