"The devastation is hard for people to deal with today," explains Pastor Scott Shaw, associate pastor of Living Hope Church in Jefferson City, MO.

As he surveys the damage, he knows that not only physical but also emotional and spiritual devastation is felt following the EF-3 tornado that struck Jefferson City on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Senior Pastor Mark Keikhaefer's home was completely destroyed. Thankfully, he and his family are all safe; they were not living in the house at the time, as they were in the middle of renovating it. God protected Pastor Mark and his family, but the house is part of a greater God-given desire to affect this marginalized part of town for Jesus.

Major damage also occurred in the commercial district along with destruction to many residential areas. Pastor Scott indicated, "We are assessing the situation in the downtown area of Jefferson City and how we can assist people."

Living Hope Church is no stranger to Crisis Response and sharing the love of Christ to those in need. The last week of April, 2019, their church sent a team to help those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX. This truly is a church that serves those in need, and now they have that opportunity in the new mission field created by this tornado.

ReachGlobal Crisis Response is partnering with the Central District of the EFCA and Living Hope Church to respond to this crisis. Leadership from these entities will be meeting soon to determine the best way to respond.

Here's how you can help:

  • For those impacted by this devastating storm, that they can begin to walk through the steps of healing physically, emotionally and spiritually.
  • For Living Hope Church and Pastors Mark and Scott as they lead their church during this time of recovery.
  • For leadership of ReachGlobal Crisis Response, the Central District of the EFCA and Living Hope Church as they meet to discuss a course of action.
  • For gospel impact in Jefferson City as members of Living Hope Church assist their community.

Based on Crisis Response's experience with such a major event, ministry outreach opportunities for the Central District and Living Hope church will last for a long period of time. Join us in sharing the love of Christ with those in need through financial support.
