Senior Accountant

The EFCA national office is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to provide overall support to the Director of Accounting. This position will oversee the financial operations of the organization and will be a key contributor to the Accounting Department’s continuous improvement and preparation for the future.

  • Oversee transaction processing for the Commercial Card Expense Reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash and credit card receipts, and fixed asset systems to ensure timely and compliant processing.
  • Review and post weekly international wires, ACH, and check payments; and review and post Raiser’s Edge interfaced entries
  • Provide direction to and be responsible for the work of the Financial Operations Accountant, the Purchase Card Administrator, and the AP / AR Specialist
  • Month-end close: ensure balances are accurate, review the reconciliation of operating investment accounts, and verify that the fixed asset module ties to general ledger
  • Treasury Management: update Cash Dashboard, manage cash forecasting models, establish daily bank reconciliations, build banking relationships
  • Establish and maintain an internal audit function to validate or improve the Organization’s internal controls, and recommend improvements
  • Improve transaction processes and explore new ways to use accounting system capabilities
  • Other duties as assigned, including serving as backup for the Director of Accounting and assisting with the annual audit

Skills and Education Requirements

  • Alignment with the mission and values of the EFCA.
  • Three or more years of public accounting or equivalent industry experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) license a plus
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems, Blackbaud Financial Edge a plus
  • Experience with not-for-profit fund accounting
  • Familiarity with international payment methods
  • Demonstrated understanding of internal controls
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure that documentation is complete and accurate
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate and lead others effectively
  • Possess knowledge of laws and regulations which impact the organization, with ability to apply them to appropriate operating procedures
  • LEAN or Six Sigma experience a plus
