Worship Director

River Oaks Community Church, Goshen, Indiana

Give oversight to the corporate worship gatherings at the Elkhart Campus and student ministries on Sunday evenings.

Ministry description

Purpose: This is a full-time position to support the mission, vision and values of River Oaks by giving oversight to the corporate worship gatherings at both River Oaks in Elkhart and student ministries on Sunday evenings. This includes: planning worship sets, developing charts and creating tracks to support the message of the worship service. This position is responsible to recruit, identify, empower and lead a team of volunteer musicians and vocalists to lead our community into an excellent environment conducive to worshipping Christ with excitement and without distractions.

Reports to: Campus pastor/student and family pastor


Position requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree involving music theory, Christian worship or similar field
  • Three-plus years experience creating and leading a dynamic worship experience
  • Have strong vocal talent and ability to lead with an instrument (guitar and keys preferred)
  • Have knowledge of AbletonLive, Finale, ProPresenter and Planning Center Online
  • Possess an understanding of musical arrangement and charting
  • Strong spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ and lives a godly lifestyle
  • A loyal team player who is committed to the mission, values and vision of River Oaks
  • Makes a positive contribution to staff culture that embodies the River Oaks’ cultural standards
  • Experience in volunteer coordination, development and empowerment
  • Possesses a high level of initiative and ability to work independently, performing duties with minimal direction and supervision


  • Demonstrates excellence in written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to anticipate needs, highly organized, attention to detail, a multi-tasker and excellence in time management
  • Maintains confidentiality as appropriate and accountable with church resources
  • Motivated to continually seek professional development opportunities
  • Consent to a criminal background check


  • Coordinate with the pastoral team and other members of the creative team to develop an excellent worship environment that is welcoming and affirming to both believers and non-believers
  • Cooperate with River Oaks and Goshen worship director to select songs that support the message of the morning and celebrate Jesus Christ
  • Recruit and provide leadership to a team of musicians and vocalists
  • Position volunteers for success by having arrangements completed well in advance of weekly midweek rehearsal
  • Develop worship volunteers both musically and spiritually, creating a vibrant culture for them to thrive
  • Lead thought-provoking and moving communication from the platform/stage
  • Facilitate worship in various other settings and services as directed (weddings, funerals, outreach events, etc.)
