Staff Elder of Students and Families

Christ Community Church, Laguna Hills, CA

Lead and help integrate students and families into the church fostering a true church culture of all ages, stages and backgrounds of life.

Qualifications and skills

  • Personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit and a healthy family life
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master's preferred) in a related field, experience in youth ministry, administrative skills and a personal spiritual life congruent with biblical mandates for the office of elder (1 Tim 3:1-7)
  • Capable of creating and executing a long-term plan for Christ Community Church’s student ministry
  • Gifted and called to youth ministry: loves young people, excited to reach students with the gospel and lead them to greater discipleship
  • Engaging communicator with a strong biblical and theological background
  • Self-motivated leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, and possessing relational skills with students, parents and staff

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Lead and organize an effective student ministry that contains fellowship, service, biblical teaching, discipleship and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities
  • Recruit, train and shepherd volunteer staff with diverse gifts and personalities
  • Familiar with and conversant with a biblical counseling philosophy and able to encourage students in biblical counsel
  • Maintain contact with students for the purpose of discipleship and pastoral care
  • Maintain contact with parents, keeping them updated on ministry strategies and plans that encourage partnership and encouragement
  • Create, maintain and exercise oversight regarding the student ministry budget as well as other necessary financials for the ministry
  • Seek to integrate students into the larger life of the church to foster a true church culture of all ages, stages and backgrounds of life
  • Be a team player with the larger staff elder team
  • Other duties as required by the senior staff elder


  • Arrive 45 minutes prior to the beginning of any scheduled event to ensure the necessary support staff and items are in place
  • Grow the youth ministry in meaningful ways
  • Weekly one-on-one meetings
  • Attend worship services and church events
  • Present semi-annual ministry updates and goals for the coming year to the elders
  • Stay current with youth ministry practices and culture by reading, learning and growing
  • Preach occasionally in main service and/or assist with other ministry teams
