Senior Pastor

Peoples Church, Pinckney, Michigan

Serve as the spiritual leader equipping the church to advance the gospel and make disciples.

Ministry description

The senior pastor serves as the spiritual leader of Peoples Church equipping the body for the purpose of advancing the gospel and making disciples. Together, with the elder board, he leads the process for discerning and clarifying vision and provides leadership and supervision for implementation of that vision through the various ministries of the church. Using a team approach, he inspires, develops and empowers all staff members, ministry groups and leaders of the church body.



  • Provide a clear testimony to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and exhibits the fruit of a true Christian life
  • Meet biblical qualifications of pastor as found in 1 Tim 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, and 1 Pet 5:1-4
  • Hold to, without reservations, the Statement of Faith of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA)
  • Be ordained by the EFCA or be willing to commit to actively pursuing ordination with the EFCA
  • Experience leading a multi-staff church
  • Exhibit the spiritual gifts of the pastor/teacher as found in Eph 4:11-13
  • Has participated and held a leadership position in a successful and healthy organizational cultural change
  • Master's of Divinity


  • Seven-plus years experience, preferably in a multi-staff church
  • Ability to connect with next generation and integrate then into the church body
  • Willing to reside and be active within the greater Pinckney community
  • Provide evidence of ongoing pursuit of professional growth through continuing education and professional development activities



  • Spiritually dependent and engaged in the presence and power of Christ by consistently pursuing relationship with God through personal time in the Word and in prayer (Titus 1:9)
  • Prepare and deliver Scripture-driven, theme-formatted, weekly messages which proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, not neglecting any portion of the Scriptures (1 Tim 4:13, 2 Tim 3:16, 2 Tim 4:2)
  • Engage in prayer, study and preparation so that biblical messages consist of a balance of invitation and challenge (Eph 4:11-12, Titus 2:1).
  • Participate and coordinate with the programming team to facilitate inspiring worship experiences


  • Lead the continued development of a missional discipleship culture within the body of believers
  • Equip and empower staff and ministry leaders to live missionally as disciples who make disciples
  • Provide and promote spiritual leadership and encouragement to the elder board, ministry staff, ministry leaders and the congregation
  • Facilitate and guide the congregation and its leadership in a shared vision of God’s preferred future for Peoples Church including the development and implementation of goals and strategies

Shepherding/pastoral care

  • Maintain character above reproach, a faithful life worthy of emulation (1 Tim 3:2-5,7, Titus 1: 6-8, 1 Pet 5:2-3)
  • Actively develop relationships by engaging with those in the church and the community, knowing people and their needs (John 10:11-14)
  • Foster the value of reaching out to the “lost” by seeking persons of peace and serving others in our daily walk
  • Lead the church to care for the spiritual welfare of one another (Acts 20:28-31)
  • Lead the elders in providing care, counseling and ibblical discipline in Christian love to the church and community (Jas 5:19-20)
  • Officiate weddings and funerals as necessary

Servant leader/administrator

  • Supervise ministry staff and hold them accountable for their areas of responsibility, including annual performance evaluations
  • Provide mentoring or other assistance as necessary to assist in their personal and professional development
  • Vision casting and action planning for church growth
  • Effective and healthy communication with individuals and teams
  • Serve as an ex-officio member and consultant to the church’s ministry teams, board committees, etc.
  • Abide by the by-laws and constitution of Peoples Church
