Lead and guide ministry to middle and high school students, fostering an environment of discipleship and encouragement.

Ministry description

The Pastor/Director of Student Ministries will lead and guide Grace Point’s Student Ministry to middle and high school students. This individual will foster an environment where, through intentional relationships, students are discipled and encouraged. This includes those who are interested in knowing God and developing a relationship with Him as s/he disciples and encourages them through the study of the Bible, Life Groups, events, retreats, and other opportunities for intentional relationship building. It also includes intentional relationships with those who do not have a relationship with God or a church congregation.

The Pastor/Director of Student Ministries should also understand and follow God’s desires for leadership in the Church, outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 2 Timothy 2:15. S/He must actively strive to develop the character described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. As with all those who have been called by God into ministry, this job can only be accomplished through reliance on the Holy Spirit, study of the Word and total dependence on God through prayer. The Pastor/Director of Student Ministries will work closely with the Lead Pastor, Administrative Pastor, and the Elder board as s/he assumes the responsibilities of this role.


  • A passionate, growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as evidenced through the fruit of the Spirit, a vibrant prayer life, a heart for lost people and a love of God’s Word
  • Ability to study, interpret, and apply God’s word in a practical way
  • Understanding or willingness to learn when to guide students with counseling needs and when to refer to a professional counselor
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, biblical studies or Student Ministry
  • Previous Student Ministry experience
  • Proficient understanding of challenges and needs of students
  • Proficiency with social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Tok-tok, and Twitter)
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to lead by example
  • Willingness to adapt to the flexible time demands of full-time ministry
  • A commitment to sustained excellence and quality
  • Ability to lead and develop God’s people to be able to discover and use their God given gifts
  • Teachable spirit, a willingness to seek the counsel of others when needed and a submission to authority


MINISTRY (Grades 6-12)

  • Take responsibility for the Middle School & High School Student Ministry and the training of volunteers for various ministry roles
  • Develop, lead, and oversee Grace Point’s ministry of discipleship to students to encourage their spiritual growth
  • Recruit, oversee, and train a team of adult Student Ministry Team leaders as they learn to disciple and invest in student’s lives
  • Develop and plan for regular and consistent Student Ministry events. In keeping with Grace Point’s current vision, these events will have one or more of the following foundations as the goal: worship, grow, serve, and engage
  • Develop and plan for an intentional hand-off with our Children’s Ministry as children and their parent(s) transition into the Student Ministry. This includes, but is not limited to, planning for intentional relationship building at 1-2 Children’s Ministry events per year and for 1-2 yearly student and parent events that have the goal of transitioning students and their parents into the Student Ministry well
  • Spend time on a regular basis with individuals and small groups of students in order to mentor, build relationships and develop leaders
  • Design, oversee, examine, and recommend/select curriculum for all Student Ministry programs, events and classes
  • Develop and model an intentional relationship building ministry by equipping volunteers to attend school functions, dramas, concerts, sporting events, etc. where students are participating
  • Develop intentional relationships with parent(s) in order to partner with them as the primary disciplers of their child(ren)
  • Reach out to unchurched students through continued outreach efforts
  • Interact with parents and students by attending Sunday morning services
  • Establish annual goals and objectives for Student Ministry in cooperation with the Student Ministry team, Administrative Pastor, and in alignment with the stated vision, mission, and core values of the church
  • Maintain frequent communication with the church body as a whole, but particularly with the parents of students. Provide training for parents as needed. This training could include, but is not limited to, how to improve communication with your child(ren), how to study the Bible with your child(ren), how to parent in a tech driven world
  • Display a Christ-like approach and lifestyle, and pray regularly for young people in the church and community
  • Have and continue to develop a proficient understanding of the challenges young people face and a Christ like response to such challenges
  • If not already established, pursue establishment of a long-term mentoring relationship for your personal spiritual and emotional growth as a leader and individual
  • Manage the Student Ministry annual budget


  • Preserve, protect and proclaim the Word of God
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Utilize the Ministry Assistant to aid in various administrative needs of the Student Ministry. These could include but are not limited to: producing emails and other relevant communications, camp/trip/retreat planning and coordination, student mailings, preparing materials for youth meetings, and maintaining accurate records. Part of this utilization will require the development of a working plan for execution.
  • Utilize the Marketing Production Assistant to aid in various social media and website communications. Part of this utilization will require the development of a working plan for execution.
  • Consistently review Student Ministry safety protocols and make any necessary adjustments. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting background check requirements and making sure that a minimum of two adults are present with students at all Student Ministry events.
  • Be willing to serve within a team leadership structure, willingly assisting other areas and providing opportunities for others to serve in Student Ministry as needs arise
  • Submit monthly Visa Report with receipts for purchases
  • Affirm the core doctrine of Grace Point Evangelical Free Church
