Family Discipleship Pastor

Implement vision for children’s, youth and adult discipleship ministries, with most of your personal involvement in youth ministry.

Ministry description

The family discipleship pastor works alongside the senior pastor to implement the overall vision for children’s, youth and adult discipleship ministries, having greatest personal involvement in the area of youth ministry.


  • Exhibit excellent strategic planning and organizational skills
  • Knowledgeable (formal or informal training) of Christian theology
  • Committed to gospel-centered ministry philosophy and expository teaching
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in team situations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately
  • Be a team player, focused on collaboration
  • Understanding of and alignment with the Hingham Church’s mission and discipleship strategy
  • 3-5 years (minimum) of vocational pastoral experience
  • Actively walking with Jesus Christ, practicing spiritual disciplines


Responsibility #1: Personally oversee middle and high school worship gatherings

  • Strategically plan and implement ministry gatherings and events to reach youth with the gospel
  • Create and/or select gospel-centered curriculum for all student-ministry contexts
  • Equip students to reach their classmates and friends with the gospel
  • Invest in personal connections and training of parents and youth volunteers as well as youth
  • Align youth ministry with the Hingham Church’s discipleship strategy (i.e., preventing ministry “silos”)
  • Recruit, develop and encourage youth volunteer staff

Responsibility #2: Oversee children’s, student,and adult Christian education ministry (Sunday school) and children’s Bible classes (midweek)

  • Provide personal coaching, encouragement and team development opportunities for ministry volunteers
  • Recruit, assess and engage new volunteers as they become necessary and available
  • Foster and lead in a disciplemaking culture within these ministry teams, aligning with Hingham Church’s discipleship strategy

Responsibility #3: Shepherd and partner with the parents of birth through 18 children and youth

  • Encourage and equip parents to be the primary disciple-makers of their own children
  • Shepherd families through significant personal and spiritual milestones in the lives of their children (i.e., baptism, graduation, etc.)
  • Provide pastoral care to students and families

Responsibility #4: Share in the pastoral care of the congregation

  • Participate in preaching and teaching, officiating at weddings and funerals, visitation, and counseling as assigned by the senior pastor
  • Perform other duties as directed by the senior pastor

  • A welcoming, engaging, gospel-centered ministry to middle and high school students
  • Equipped and loving teams of volunteers working to serve children, youth and their families
  • Healthy partnerships between families and the church as we strive to assist them in shepherding their children
  • Compassionate and biblically sound pastoral care for students and families
