Payne Ave EFC is located on the East Side of St. Paul - Minnesota’s capitol city - on a relatively busy commercial street. The community is largely residential, with a strong mix of Southeast Asian, Latino, African-American and European people. The community is generally low income to blue collar. Its ministry to children has been fed for over 15 years by the yearly infusion of enthusiastic BUMP staff who come to pray, serve, present a Vacation Bible School, and build relationships. BUMP Week is something the community remembers and looks forward to each year. BUMP serves as a bridge to get families connected to the church.
New Salem Church/Iglesia Nueva Salem (formerly called Salem Evangelical Free Church) is a church in South Minneapolis. Home of the first BUMP, the church has transitioned many times since its beginnings as a Norwegian congregation over 100 years ago. New Salem Church/Iglesia Nueva Salem became a bilingual church in 2008 aiming to reach the growing Latino population in their community. The church holds their Sunday morning worship service in both English and Spanish. Their Pastor, Vidal Quevedo, preaches in Spanish while the pastoral assistant stands beside him and translates the sermon into English. New Salem also hold weekly Bible studies and discipleship groups in both languages, weekly English classes to Spanish speakers, kid’s club, youth group and homework help. New Salem Church/Iglesia Nueva Salem is a vibrant and welcoming church serving the Lord in South Minneapolis.
An exciting addition to the Twin Cities ministry is an opportunity for a team of 10 senior high students, ages 16 and over, and 2-3 adults, to update the mural on the outside of the New Salem Church building. In addition to having a heart to serve an urban community, team members should enjoy painting and artwork, have some type of painting experience and be comfortable on tall scaffolding.

Since 1993, Living Hope Ministries (LHM) has been serving a specific area of Northeast Minneapolis we call the “Miracle Mile.” Within this small area of 156 square blocks, about 20,000 people reside; 5,000 are under the age of 19. Many live below the poverty line and many come from single-parent families. Most importantly, many do not know Jesus.
A faith-based organization, LHM strategically focuses on the families of this community, desiring to see them grow in a thriving relationship with Christ, providing for their needs, and breaking cycles of poverty. During the school year, elementary-aged children attend a tutoring program to receive one-on-one tutoring and Bible learning. LHM also has two groups for girls in middle school and high school in which they study the Bible, receive mentoring, and live out their faith through service. On Sunday evenings, LHM hosts family nights, beginning with a meal and followed by an adult Bible study and simultaneous kids Bible club. LHM has been in its current location in the heart of the Miracle Mile since the spring of 2011.
Faith EFC is a congregation that has been in existence since 1925. It moved to its curent location in Robbinsdale in 1966. After serving for two years, in 2009, Tom Olson was called to pastor Faith EFC to help restart the ministry. Some of the ministries launched to reach the community since then include BUMP (including a carnival), classic car show, women’s tea, marriage enrichment, family fun nights and children’s church. During the summer of 2010, Faith EFC moved their Sunday morning worship outdoors to increase their presence in the community. The church building is also shared by a Liberian EFCA congregation and a hispanic congregation.
Antioch Community Church is a three-year-old church plant that meets in Northeast Minneapolis near the Mississippi River. The neighborhood is made up of a mix of college students, young urban artists and older Polish/Ukrianians. As a church plant, BUMP teams will come alongside ACC to help them serve the community and thereby increasing their presence and ministry. ACC is a church committed to both serving neighbors and training young leaders. BUMPers will serve neighborhood organizations and homeowners in a number of ways and help care for the rented facility where the church meets.
Riverside EFC is a church re-plant in the southern portion of Minneapolis. As the existing congregation aged and the neighborhood changed, the church now seeks to reach the community to share the gospel message in new ways. They open their doors to their neighbors through musicals, basketball, bread for those in need and youth programs.
Cross Cultural EFC meets at the Hayden Heights Baptist Church in St. Paul and is an intentionally intercultural church seeking to have the congregation reflect the diversity of their community. The Upper East Side is an area of growing cultural and ethnic diversity and the church’s congregation is comprised of more than 40% Hmong and 10% African Americans. The vision God has laid on the hearts of those leading Cross Cultural is to bring together the cultures of the community under the cross of Christ, transform them through the power of Christ, and conform them to the image of Christ.
Twin Cities BUMP participants complete service projects, prayer walk and evangelize, host block parties, car washes, VBS programs and sports camps. All teams stay in the dorms at North Central University in downtown Minneapolis.
