Meet the director
Dr. Alejandro (Alex) Mandes began his walk with the Lord when he was 17 in Laredo, TX. He married Julie Ann from Leonard, ND, and for several summers while Alex was in college they worked with migrant ministries in both North Dakota and Minnesota.
Alex has long been a part of the EFCA. Alex planted Communion Chapel EFC in 1989 and pastored there in San Antonio, TX, until he took the role of EFCA Hispanic Ministries director. Communion Chapel is a multiethnic ministry consisting primarily of second and third generation Hispanics. During his ministry at Communion Chapel, Alex developed many key leaders that have gone on to plant and pastor other churches. Alex also played a key role in developing the EFCA Hispanic Pastors Association (MHIEL - Ministerios Hispanos de la Iglesia Evangelica Libre). He was MHIEL’s first president and has served on the leadership team for many years.
Alex graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s and a Masters degree in Social Work and Counseling. He received both his Masters of Theology and D.Min. from Dallas Seminary. His focus was Ministry to Hispanics in North America.
In the fall of 2006, Alex joined the EFCA as the first director of Hispanic Ministries. He is a catalyst for multiplying healthy Hispanic churches by identifying potential leaders and equipping existing Hispanic pastors within our movement. Alex’ great passion is to see Hispanic pastors equipped to be healthy leaders that develop new leaders and impact the kingdom for Christ.
Alex and his wife Julie have five adult daughters and currently live in San Antonio, TX.
