Emerging Black Leaders Internship
The EFCA is committed to investing in the lives of young black leaders as they seek to be faithful laborers for Christ’s kingdom. The Emerging Black Leaders Program is a ministry of the African-American Fellowship that seeks to empower and equip emerging black church planters, pastoral leaders, and ministry leaders within the EFCA movement for kingdom work. This non-traditional mentoring program works in partnership with EFCA districts, local congregations and ministry partners to provide the exposure, training and ministry experience for each intern.
Meet Evette Waters, the new Emerging Black Leaders Intern
She’s a pastor’s daughter that finds balloons “remarkably fun” and thinks riding a bike is one of the best things to do on earth. Enjoying the small pleasures of life, her joy and faith are contagious. Answering God’s dual calling, Evette Waters is the EFCA’s 2011 Emerging Black Leader and a missionary candidate for the ReachGlobal Toulouse GO Team—prepared “for such a time as this” as the first African-American female missionary for ReachGlobal.
Evette is excited to answer God’s dual calling. “My deepest desire is to disciple women and children through theological education, challenging the status quo treatment of women despite the culture around them.” Having interned for two months in France with ReachGlobal missionaries, she’s ready to join the team. She will be involved with church planting, teaching English as a second language and discipleship reaching out to women and children, many from the largely Muslim culture of Toulouse.
In preparation for her field assignment in urban Toulouse, France Evette will spend the next 16 months living and
serving as an urban missionary in West Orange, NJ at Bethany EFC under the shepherding of Pastor Zach Guyton. She will be building relationships within the church by serving the youth and women.
Her prayerful desire and goal is for the Spirit of the Lord to raise up the needed prayer team and financial partners within 2011 so Evette may rejoin the Toulouse GO Team in August 2012. Join her prayer team. Learn more about contributing our Emerging Black Leader’s fund or be part of Evette’s missionary support team with a monthly donation by clicking on the DONATE tab.
