Mexico
In the midst of political and social crises in Mexico, God is working in rich and powerful ways, moving in the hearts of the people and igniting a movement, especially amongst the youth. New churches are being planted, missionaries are being sent to other parts of the world, and the lost are finding hope and healing in Christ.
To get a feel for life in Mexico, read an article in the EFCA Today online magazine written by a ReachGlobal missionary.
Ministry focus
The ReachGlobal Latin America ministry in Mexico is committed to partnering with local churches and ministries in Mexico City in order to provide church planting coaching and training, networking and holistic ministries to people in need of healing.
Church planting coaching
Following the ReachGlobal model of church planting, ReachGlobal staff in Mexico City have come alongside a group known as the Young Mexican Missionaries (JMM) to help coach, disciple, network and resource these lay leaders in evangelism, outreach and church planting.
Their first church plant, Iglesia del Rey (Church of the King), is led by a young bi-vocational pastor along with a core group of young professionals. Part of the Evangelical Free Church of Mexico (FIEL), the church continues to grow while also demonstrating a strong missions focus and heart for other young professionals in the city. It is the first church in the FIEL to incorporate an entrepreneurial aspect as Iglesia del Rey looks to establish a water purification plant to serve the local community.
In January 2011, ReachGlobal expanded its work to include another FIEL church plant, Vida Abundante (Abundant Life), in the southern part of Mexico City. Although still a young church plant, Vida Abundante is already involved in missions in the mountains of Tenango. The pastor, with the help of a ReachGlobal church planting coach serving in Mexico, is focused on discipling young men and other potential church planters who might join the Free Church fold. Iglesia del Rey and Vida Abundante partner together for evangelism, training events and other missions activities.
Casa DAYA
Casa DAYA (DAYA House — where DAYA stands for the Spanish words meaning to give and to love) is a secular organization founded to give refuge and care to teenage mothers and their children who would otherwise live on the city streets or in a violent home. With a Christian home director running the DAYA program, the opportunity exists to share the gospel of Christ with these young mothers while teaching them important life skills and ministering to them holistically. Read about the craft class that has opened doors to sharing Christ’s love.
