  • Berlin is the largest city in Germany, with the most influence politically and culturally.
  • Geographically it is comprised of 100 distinct localities, i.e. 100 cities within a large city.
  • Over 60% of the city’s surface area is park or water. The city actually has more bridges than Venice.
  • Berlin’s architecture is quite varied, since most of it was rebuilt after World War II. It is a mixture of Old Europe and modern Europe.

Berlin: A Place to Be

KreuzburgHousing costs in Berlin are one of the lowest in Western Europe, making Berlin a magnet for young people. The active lifestyle of a city that never sleeps attracts a variety of people, including students, artists and musicians. Berlin is addictive. It offers an almost inexhaustible variety of possible activities.

Berlin is intriguing because it is so versatile and multi-faceted. Its differences are more extreme and conflicts more tangible than other places in Europe. Yet this contradiction is part of the appeal of Berlin. It is a place of expression and surprise; it is a place of innovation and creativity.

No other region in Europe has as high a concentration of scientific, academic, and research facilities as Berlin. Berlin invests over $2 billion annually in science, academics, and research. More than 50,000 people teach, do research, or work at the city’s four universities, three art colleges, seven other institutions of higher education, an international business school, and over 70 non-university publicly financed research institutes.

Berlin is an ideal place for the convergence of cultures. More than 500,000 non-Germans from 195 different countries live in the city. This creates a cultural pluralism that contributes to the distinctive and cosmopolitan character of the city.

Reaching the city

To adapt to a diverse, rapidly changing urban context requires innovation and a vast array of approaches. It takes a team with diverse backgrounds, willing to attempt new things, and focused on many areas of ministry and locations in the city.

Currently the Berlin City Team has four distinct focus areas:

  • Church planting: a wide variety of approaches
  • Leadership development: building a deeper foundation of leadership
  • Strategic partnerships: working together to be more effective
  • Business as mission: developing a crossroad where the marketplace and the church converge

Our desire is not to fill job descriptions, as much as to mobilize a person’s passion and gifting. Our hope is for a diverse team from all around the world, working alongside one another with the common bond of expressing the gospel to transform the city.

Our team is comprised of people who enjoy living among others that think differently than they do. They are uniquely being who God created them to be, yet living with love and compassion towards others: hanging out, sharing life, walking alongside, and being with.

Berlin is the place to be.
