Whenever there is terror or disaster, there is an opportunity for the church. This is true for India at a critical time in its history when believers in many states are under huge pressure, facing killings, beatings, rapes, church burnings and other harassment on a regular basis.
Pastors in India work in circumstances that are difficult. They never complain, endure great suffering and difficulty. They are seeing many Hindi’s and Muslim’s coming to Christ. A deep spiritual hunger abides in India.
In the 50 years following India’s independence from Great Britain in 1947, there were only 50 reported attacks of on Christians. In 2008 alone, more than 200 attacks reported—mostly in the state of Orissa. The roots of this wave of persecution are complex, weaving politics and caste with religion.

- Praise God for patience, and willingness of Christians in facing on-going persecution with perseverance, and wisdom.
- Pray that God will reveal the life of Jesus through their faithful and bold testimonies.
- Ask Christ to continue to build his Church in a nation of over one billion people.
- Pray for pastors and their families who are often targets of persecution.
