A Consortium

Engaging the Church in PartnershipIndia Retreat

The following story was written to a church consortium after ministering to a national partner organization in a restricted access country:

"The rice pot was filled to overflowing and so were our hearts as we enjoyed a great time of fellowship, worship, teaching and praying with the 8 church-planting teams in a creative access country. The five-day retreat was held in a beautiful and isolated setting—an island.

Our role at the retreat was to provide training in using the Bible as a guide for daily life. Our pastor taught four mornings on the topics of spiritual character, conflict resolution, and family relationships. It was a joyful experience to worship in the native language and English with our brothers and sisters. There was plenty of time to make friends with team members and their families, and through interviews we gathered amazing stories of God at work in and through them.

Most of all, we were able to demonstrate to them that they have partners on the other side of the world who are praying for them, and who are united with them in the desire to reach the people groups of their country. Thanks to all of you who prayed or sent packages or words of encouragement for us to deliver. We learned many new things that we can’t wait to share at the next consortium meeting."

Praise and pray

  • Praise God for the faithfulness of national workers in sharing the gospel in difficult circumstances.
  • Pray that retreats such as this one can be held in more places to encourage national staff.
  • Pray the more churches will join the growing number of consortia in the U.S. to advocate and support ministries in Asia.
