GodSighting: A New Vision for African Missions

Raising up key national leaders

In April 2007, ReachGlobal missionaries serving in Africa gathered with leaders from our African national church partners in Congo, Liberia, Rwanda, Sudan and Tanzania. The purpose was to train, encourage and network national leaders — but God had a bigger purpose.

Africa has more than 1,000 unreached people groups — more than 260 million people. During their days together the Lord began to lay on the hearts of the African church leaders their responsibility to reach those people with the gospel. They heard and accepted the call of God to raise up a generation of African church planting missionaries.

"It is our job as African Christians to reach Africa’s unreached people," one African leader said.

ReachGlobal leaders met again with these African leaders to map out a plan and strategy for what they are calling "ReachAfrica."  The African group chose leaders, set out a simple organizational structure and determined the first three countries where they want to send missionaries.

ReachAfrica leadership plans to send small "scout teams" to check out locations in these countries and to begin training missionaries. Their goal is to send multi-national church planting teams to launch holistic church planting movements among some of Africa’s least reached people.

EFCA ReachGlobal has the opportunity to partner with this indigenous African missions movement to help reach millions of Africa’s unreached people.
