Mayhem, Fear and Fighting in Congo

The fighting is over for now but 60,000 people are still living in the forests while 127,000 have fled the country. The people are still afraid to return to their villages and the there are dire humanitarian needs.
Over $30,000 has come in from churches and individual donors. Our Congolese partners have developed a plan to help the people returning to their villages by providing food staples, tarps for shelter, and other necessities to get started again.
More funds are needed to help meet the massive needs. While there are other Non Government agencies (NGO’s) helping, none of them are doing it from God’s heart of compassion as the CECU can do.
Rev. Bokospale, president of the Congo Free Church or CECU, sends his heartfelt greetings for your response to their crisis.
"Thanks for your ongoing prayer for us. Greetings to all of you and we want to wish you a wonderful holiday of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, and a Good New Year in 2010. May God continue to bless and care for you so that our partnership will move forward in a good way."
Sad stories abound yet the hope of the gospel continues to motivate the church. They have set up a committee to share with the needs in their country.
"The committee we set up so that when we have some money we will be able to purchase supplies to share with the brothers over in Congo-Brazzaville and they would go to do that. We chose five brothers: One is a pastor to encourage them from the Word; two are nurses to help with medical care; Also, a school teacher and another man, to help encourage them and parcel out the things we send. We are also thinking about obtaining tarpaulins to help those who are sleeping out in the forests, much in the way of medicines to help them, some food to strengthen their bodies, and we must continue to pray to God that He work in people to end the fighting."
Rev. Bokospale was able to travel to see the situation around Tandala Hospital. Many people are still living in the forests. Some of the nurses come out of the forests only to work and when their shift is finished they return to the forest.
Please continue to pray:
- For much wisdom for President Bosokpale and the leaders of the CECU in how best to help as they face massive needs.
- For security in the Ubangi so that the many thousands of people can return from the forests and from Congo Brazzaville and Central African Republic to their homes.
- Unity for the children of God in the Ubangi, especially the church at Dongo and Ndolo-Liboko.
- The General Assembly 2010 and the health of the CECU.
- Peace in the Congo
- That the people would leave their bad traditions, such as animism.
