Starvation in Somalia
Join the relief effort…it’s far from over
Help TouchGlobal, the EFCA’s crisis response ministry, reach out to the Somali people. Our partner, working in dire circumstances, said,
"We truly praise the Lord who has shown us His favor in this challenging work of saving lives in drought and you have been His hands, since through you we have received grace from Him making this work possible."
Struck by one of the worst droughts in 60 years, tens of thousands Somali’s have died of malnutrition and related diseases. A relentless conflict has depleted the country’s food. Millions of Somalis are at risk and in urgent need of aid in the midst of what has been officially declared a famine by the UN. EFCA ReachGlobal is responding through the Africa Famine Relief fund to equip the national church to meet the needs of those they are ministering to as the result of famine in Somalia.
Partnering with TouchGlobal
Over 400,000 people have fled Somalia and are now residing in camps in the northeast of Kenya. The World Food Program and the Kenyan government are having difficulty getting sufficient supplies into these camps. TouchGlobal, the EFCA’s crisis response ministry, is working with Sheepfold Ministry to reach the unreached peoples with the transforming message of the gospel of Christ.
Here is what has been happening through the money that you gave:
-
4200 families have been given food provisions.
-
Five new wells have been dug in Wajir.
-
Exploration of the area to sink a borehole.
-
Purchased the parts and finished a windmill which will be particularly useful for the women’s groups who will be able to get water for their families and do some small scale farming for food.
-
A feeding program for children under five as well as an in-school feeding program was put in place.
-
Nurses and a nutritionist are in place which will enhance the efforts, especially in healthcare.
-
Trauma counseling has been held in one refugee camp and soon it will be started in another camp.
Give
Financial donations will be sent to partners in the region who are coordinating the relief efforts in Somalia. They are actively engaged in bringing food relief into the camps. Funds will also be used for famine relief supplies, transportation, distribution, and related outreach, evangelism and discipleship.
Pray
The provisions will cement the Christian witness in the refugee camps. Just recently one man asked “Where did this food come from?” He was told, “Christians from across the world have given it and we are sharing it with you.” He replied, “The Christians have helped us, where are our Muslim brothers?”- For the Sheepfold Ministry to flourish and they would be able to rehabilitate the wells close to the refugee centers.
- For the thousands showing up at the refugee centers every day who have lost everything.
