Turkish Delight - Providing Shelter
Help TouchGlobal reach out to the Turkish people
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the city of Van in a rural province in eastern Turkey in October. Casualties numbered over 600, with 2200 buildings destroyed. Another 5.7 earthquake/after-shock rocked the area two weeks later. Many in the provincial capital are stranded in the cold, with no safe place for shelter, afraid of the poor infrastructures of their homes. The local people are pleading with TouchGlobal workers to build more shelters.
With the desire to help more of those in need, the church in Van already built 150 shelters. Upon construction of each shelter, the team has been able to pray in the name of Jesus with most of the families. Scriptures have also been shared with some of the non-believing Turks, hired by the city of Van to help.
TouchGlobal workers are boldly asking for $40,000 to help build shelters to get people out of the cold.
Give
$400 builds a shelter for a family. Help those ministering in Turkey build needed shelters as winter approaches.
Serve
You and your church can tangibly serve the people in Turkey through short- or long-term service. One long-term need is for a female to disciple the women affected in Turkey. Be sure to explore the other opportunities.
Pray
- For men of peace - As King Jesus instructed His disciples before He sent them out in Luke 10:1-12, the workers are looking for the people of peace who would open up their homes and their web of relationships to the Good News of Jesus. Pray that the good works which He has "prepared beforehand for them to walk in" (Ephesians 2:10), would result in drawing men, women and children to take God’s Word seriously and to begin a process of discovering Him with their family and friends.
- For the international relief team organized by the Turkish Alliance of Protestant Churches. This team is spearheaded by Turks, working along with Kurds, Koreans and North Americans.
- For protection for the wives and children of the response workers who left home.
