Community Presence Points to Christ

The simple prayer of a local Haitian woman at the end of a recent community meeting spoke volumes. As she prayed, she expressed her gratitude for the consistent presence of TouchGlobal, the crisis response ministry of the EFCA, team as the community strategizes and mobilizes for long-term recovery.

While not eloquent, her words were heartfelt. "They [the TouchGlobal team members] came and are asking lots of questions, but that is helping us think through what needs to be done. We are encouraged that they have come back as promised. We know that You are in our midst and will continue to help us."

Haitian smileAt that moment, the TouchGlobal team was humbly reminded of the power of relational ministry. By making themselves available to the local community leaders and focusing on empowering those leaders to guide the relief efforts (rather than taking control themselves), Crisis Response is creating a healthy relationship and partnership in the local community. It is a partnership that will last because it is based on trust and respect — and it points the community leaders to the power, care, and provision of the Lord.

To keep this relationship strong, TouchGlobal needs long-term staff members to join the team. Consider serving one month to one year or more in Haiti, and be the face and heart of TouchGlobal in a community in need.
