Hope Beyond the Haiti Earthquake

It has been six months since Haiti was turned upside down by an earthquake which toppled buildings, killed at least 230,000 and left even more injured homeless. Remember how you wanted to do something to help?

Haiti exists in a new state of "normal". People are still poor but now they live in tents rather than concrete buildings. Haitians still lack many things that most Americans take for granted like food, electricity, water and the opportunity for children to attend school.

The Haitian government does not provide "free" education. Many schools are run by churches and other organizations. Going to school is a privilege and it is not guaranteed. After the earthquake, most schools were closed for several months. Even the schools that were not destroyed by the earthquake reopened in tents or under tarps as the government would not allow schools to meet in cement-roofed buildings.

While we can’t fix all of the problems of Haiti, we can do something significant for the Haitian kids through giving a gift of ten dollars. $10 will buy a Haitian child the school books they need for the 2010 school year.

Let’s help 2500 children in Haiti have the books they need to learn to read and write, helping to give them hope and a better future through schooling and an education.
