A New Normal
Five years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans celebrate the God-sized ministry that has taken place through EFCA TouchGlobal Crisis Response and the partnership of hundreds of churches across the country. Almost 17,000 volunteers, investing over 650,000 ministry hours, have shared Christ’s love in tangible ways. Many people in New Orleans have moved to a ‘new’ normal, yet for tens of thousands, the impact of Katrina is still being felt. A recent team wrote of their experience:
"Our group helped David and Bridgette and their special needs son who have not been in their home since the storm. I remember meeting David on the first day. He was quiet and reserved and throughout the week our friendship blossomed by understanding the journey he had been on since the storm. We removed debris from the yard, material possessions that had great memories of life before the storm. David often took time to share those memories with us and we could tell it was a very good healing process for him. Late in the week David’s wife pulled me aside with tears in her eyes and said, "This is the first time I have seen him smile like this since the storm…Thank you". –Brookfield Bible Church
Would you consider being the hands and feet of Christ by partnering with TouchGlobal? Hope was restored for this family but the physical needs and ministry are not complete. Over 45,000 Katrina-impacted properties still scar the poorer areas of the region. Many more families, like David and Bridgette’s are hungry for hope and a reason to smile again.
9th Ward focus
While much physical rebuilding remains in the poorer areas, like the 9th Ward, TouchGlobal Crisis Response’s focus remains on relational ministry. Capitalizing on the ministry foundation of the first five years, TouchGlobal is mobilizing a dedicated team to make disciples and plant churches with a vision to see reproducing faith communities established around the region.
