CORE Driven
On August 21st, the community of Shelby, Ohio was injured by a late-night flood. Businesses, schools, and homes were damaged by the flood waters.
As a newly planted church in the community, we were called to a great task. It was time to rise up and spread God’s love to the people.
We rallied church volunteers and made calls to community leaders to find out where the greatest needs were. We went to school buildings and homes to offer a hand in the clean up. We found ways to share encouragement with our hands and words.
The second day we purchased hamburgers and hot dogs and had a cookout on the street where several homes had been overwhelmed by the flood waters. Our church members walked up and down the street, passing out freshly grilled hamburgers and hot dogs to home owners and volunteer laborers.
We listened to their stories, cried with them and prayed God’s comfort on them.
We folded and separated donated clothing, stacked and stored food and passed out supplies as needed. We found ourselves working alongside other area churches and building deeper relationships with them, as well.
It is our prayer at CORE Community Church that although the rebuilding of homes are coming to a close, the rebuilding and renewing of lives through the Gospel message is just beginning.
