A $5,000 Thermometer
Heidi was leading the VBS program at her church in Wisconsin. As she prepared materials for the week, she made a “thermometer” to show how much the kids had raised in offering. She felt God telling her to put the goal at $5,000, which would be enough to provide a grinding mill for a village in Southern Sudan. They usually only raise a few hundred dollars.
The morning of the closing program, they had raised $2,725.82. When Heidi counted the offering that night, they had brought in an additional $2,078 for a total of $4,804.62. After everyone left, Heidi realized people had still placed money in the missions can. There was another $280.25, bringing the offering total to $5,084.87.
During the week, the program had also asked people to bring in blankets for a “Voice of the Martyrs” project (blankets for those in Sudan). Voice of the Martyrs asks for a donation of $2 for each blanket. There were 42 blankets…$84.00! …$5,000!
